Doug Jones has defeated Roy Moore to become the new senator of Alabama.
The democrat narrowly defeated Moore who had come under scrutiny the past few months after being accused of sexual harassment and teenage sex abuse.
Jones becomes the first democratic senator elected in Alabama since Howard Heflin in 1979.
“We as the great state of Alabama have shown that we can align with this country,” Jones said in his victory speech. “Alabama has been in a crossroads and usually we haven’t always taken the right the fork but we did here tonight.”
Roy Moore’s camp has not conceded defeat.
“It’s not over,” Jones said.
